Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit review | The Kylie Posie K Dupe

I’m late to the party with liquid lipsticks, I’ll admit. I had zero interest in buying a Kylie Lip Kit when they blew up the internet purely for the shipping cost, but still, I could appreciate the hype. So, when Barry M came out with their own ‘dupe’ for the Kyle Lip Kits, naturally, I thought I’d try them out.

Although I haven’t used the Kylie Lip Kits personally, I have applied them to my clients that have brought theirs along on their makeup appointments so I have a good idea of the formula, the pay off and the colour range.

I picked up the Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit in the colour Pose, a dupe for (you guessed it) Kylie’s Posie K. Now I have to say, the colour dupe is a pretty damn good. In fact, I can hardly tell the difference between Barry M’s Pose and Kylie’s Posie K!

In the Matte Me Up box, you get a lip pencil and the actual liquid lipstick, called a Lip Paint. Again, a dead ringer for Kylie’s Lip Kits. The pencil is gorgeous – the colour translates perfectly onto the lips, is super easy to apply, non-chalky and just seems to glide on beautifully. I also found this the case with Kylie’s offering.

The Lip Paint starts off lighter once first applied (pictured) before drying down to a deeper colour (pictured below) Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit review | The Kylie Posie K Dupe | Rachael Divers

The lip pencil would look amazing on its own and gives a gorgeous sheen to the lips, but applying the liquid lipstick on top gives the colour a little more clout and that wonderful staying power that liquid lipsticks are known for. Once you apply the liquid lipstick on top of the lips, you’ll first notice the slightly sweet scent, followed by how light the actual colour is. Don’t panic, this will dry down to look identical to the lip liner and to Kylie’s Posie K!

I found the Matte Me Up Lip Kit to be super long wearing. And I mean long. wearing. Even eating and drinking won’t budge this baby! As with any liquid lipstick, it can feel a little dry on the lips towards the end of the day, so if you want to add a little sheen and moisture, swiping a little lip balm (my favourite is Carmex) over the top won’t ruin your lip look.

Barry M’s Matte Me Up Lip Kits retail at £6.99 for the Lip Pencil and Lip Paint, compared to Kylie’s Lip Kit for $29 plus the $14.95 shipping (and possibly even import duties or tax)!
