Selfies are more popular than ever before, and with the growing trend for ‘Instaglam’ (the glamorous selfies that pop up all over the popular picture sharing app), it’s no wonder that the market is pandering to our needs for the best gear to nail that all important self portrait.
As a makeup artist, a great lighting and camera set up is so important to me when it comes to Instagram as I really want to be able to showcase my work and make sure that all of the gorgeous colours and textures used really pop on screen. I was so thrilled when my friend popped by for his Halloween makeup this year and brought me a gift – the Beauty Works Instaglam Selfie Light! If you haven’t heard of it before, it’s a small battery operated portable LED ring flash light that clips onto your mobile phone in seconds and provides you three extremes of lighting at the click of a button; Subtle Glow, Medium Glow and Super-Glow. The light has 36 LED lights around it and is pretty impressive to say the least.

I couldn’t wait to test it out with my glittery eye makeup looks and see if it would really help the colours to pop.
I applied my makeup as usual and clipped the little light onto my phone and used the front facing camera to snap away at my makeup. You can see the results below.

I’m so pleased with the light and think it’s a really great addition to any selfie lover or makeup artists kit. I’ve even used this to throw light in on my beauty product images that I’ve been reviewing for my blog so it’s a real winner for me. If you want something that’s handy to carry around on the go and will help you show your work to its best, then I’d highly recommend looking into it.
