Creative makeovers are some of my favourites as it’s always fun to experiment with more dramatic makeup styles. Creative makeovers are even more fun when your client is also a part of your family!
Last week I had the pleasure of making over my cousin ahead of her night out. Lucy always knows what she wants makeup-wise and this time she asked me for warm colours, a blown out cut crease and winged liner that could cut. She also asked for strong cheekbones and a highlight that could be seen from Space. Challenge accepted!
After prepping Lucy’s skin and adding a slick of lip balm to be working its magic, I started off by perfecting Lucy’s brows and adding a little more definition to the tail of her brow. She has great brows anyway so this made my job much easier. I used a combination of a pencil, a brow gel and a concealer to define and carve the brow to leave us with a gorgeous power brow that wasn’t too over the top.
Next I started to work on the eyes. I love to prep my clients eyelids with my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. It’s an amazing product that really helps to even out the skin tone and create the perfect base for eyeshadows to sit. I always set it with an off-white eyeshadow before going in with my shades to help the blending process.
Next up was the warm transition shade – Illamasqua’s Create was perfect for this particular look. I followed this with various purple, red and warm tangerine hues before I was happy with the depth and blend. To cut the crease I went in again with my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and carved out the perfect shape. Lucy has the most gorgeous eye shape to create a rounded cut crease so that’s the shape we went with. I set the concealer once again with lighter shade before adding a pair of Eylure Enchanted Lashes in Mermaids Are Cool – a gorgeously full wispy style lash. I also added a tiny splash of a purple/brown shadow to add a little more depth to the outer corners of the eyes and highlighted the brow bone with MAC’s Vanilla pigment.
After the eyes were completed, we went in with MAC Studio Fix Fluid foundation and Collection’s Lasting Perfection Concealer followed with Ben Nye’s Neutral set to create a full coverage base. I then used MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish in Medium Tan and MAC Blush in Harmony to carve out Lucy’s cheekbones. Lastly I added MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle to the top of her cheekbones followed by The Balm’s Mary Lou Manizer in any areas that I wanted to add extra highlight to.
To finish, I added Lucy’s own lip liner and MAC lipstick in Modesty which was the perfect colour to complete the look and looks very similar to one of my favourite lip kits – the Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit in Pose (a great dupe for the Kylie Lip Kit in Posy K!)
I think that she looked absolutely amazing after her makeup transformation and it was lovely to see her wearing a stronger look than usual and experimenting with her makeup. The colours suited her perfectly and really complimented her outfit for the evening too!
