I was introduced to Boots Beauty Beneath Multi-Nutrient Beauty Supplements by my Glossybox which I get every month. I instantly fell in love with the pink, gold and white packaging and was even happier when I looked inside the box and saw how gorgeous the actual supplements themselves looked too. I never thought I’d be singing the praises of a supplement looking so pretty, but these pearly purple and pink tablets were definitely a change from my usual chalky white vitamin tablets.
The Beauty Beneath supplements are designed for fine lines, wrinkles and skin texture and contain Lycopene, Biotin, Vitamins C and E, Zinc, Marine Collagen and Omegas 3 and 6. There are four trays of tablets inside the box – two blister packs of a smaller, rounder capsule, and two blister packs of a longer, purple capsule. The idea is that you take two of each of the tablets a day.
How do they work?
The tablets are designed to work beneath the surface of our skin and been shown in a study to improve the rating of fine lines, winkles and skin texture after 8 weeks of use. They do this by providing our skin with an expert blend of antioxidants and Co-Enzyme Q10. Co-Enzyme Q10 is found in every cell of our body and helps our cells to produce the energy our body needs for our cells to grow and maintain themselves.
The small capsule contains; Vitamins B6, D, E and C, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2, Niacin, Biotic, Pantothenic Acid, Zinc Selenium and Beta Carotene.
The large capsule contains; Kelp, Lutein, Lycopene, Co-Enzyme Q10, Fish Body Oil (providing Omega 3), Evening Primrose Oil (providing Omega 6 GLA), Marine Collagen, and Grapeseed Extract (providing Polyphenois).
Do they work?
The box that I received contained 30 tablets and I’ve just today finished my course. Our skin naturally goes through a process called desquamation (the shedding of dead skin cells and the production of new skin cells) every 28 – 40 days, so I think I’d need to try a longer course than just 30 days to see if the supplements are effective for me. I can’t say I’ve noticed much difference in my skin (my fine line under my right eye looks exactly the same), but it’s probably worth noting that I have recently finished my course of Accutane so my skin has been in a pretty good place just lately (long may it last – I have my fingers crossed).
The tablets contain 3mg of Co-Enzyme Q10 – our CoQ10 production declines with age which is why it’s a good idea to take it as a supplement – however, the recommended daily dose is 50-100mg daily for people under 60 years of age so 3mg is a bit of a drop in the ocean. Most people get around 5-10mg of CoQ10 daily through their diet, so even with the vitamin boost, you’re looking at around a 13mg total for the day.
The tablets also contain 50mg of Marine Collagen – this is absorbed up to 1.5 times more efficiently into our body and enters our bloodstream quicker than other collagens. It has superior bioavailability over bovine or porcine collagens and it’s also considered the best collagen source for medicinal purposes. It’s a complex structural protein and maintains the strength and flexibility of our skin which is why it’s used in skin supplements – it also helps our eyes, nails and hair amongst our muscles, bones, joints, ligaments and tendons too. It’s a great supplement to take daily to help our skin along and I was pleased to see it included in the ingredients of the Beauty Beneath tablets.
But, to be able to give a true verdict on the supplements, I’d really need to try them for a longer period of time.
Have you tried the Beauty Beneath Supplements? I’d love to hear what you think of them!
