“And suddenly you know its time to start something new and trust the magic of new beginnings.” Meister Eckhart
It’s been a funny old two years, hasn’t it? Less of the funny ‘ha ha’ and more of the ‘this is absolutely terrifying, and I don’t know what’s happening or what day it even is anymore’ kind of funny. The odd kind of funny that has you re-assessing your life choices and re-thinking your future.
THE COVID-CLARITY
The crazy thing about a global pandemic is this: in a time of sheer uncertainty and fear, you suddenly get complete clarity of what you want from your life. You realise just how fickle life really is. You realise what and who are truly important to you.
It may come as a surprise to some of you to know that I have a chronic illness. I actually have a few, but hey, I don’t like to brag about these kind of things! Over the last couple of years in particular, I’ve really battled with my health. Physically and mentally. It takes its toll when your body begins to malfunction, particularly when you have to stop doing the things you love with the people you love.
I spent days and even weeks in bed unable to do the simplest of tasks. And within this time, I did a lot of thinking.
So with the magic of my newly found COVID-clarity (TM on the horizon), I decided to make a few big changes.
A LITTLE RECAP
If you’re new here then hi, I’m Rachael! Thank you for stopping by – it’s really great to “meet” you! If you’re new to this blog, you’ll not realise that my website looked a whole lot different to this just a mere 12 hours ago.
If you are already familiar with my name, perhaps that’s because you’ve visited me for a makeover or makeup lesson in the past. And if you did just that: thank you! I’m eternally grateful that you supported me and my business.
However, after over ten years working as a professional makeup artist, it’s time for me to put my client brushes down and embrace something new…ish.
THE BACKSTORY
As an internationally recognised makeup artist, this blog initially started as a fun way for me to tell my makeup clients and friends about the products that I was loving. And the projects I was working on, of course. But it quickly escalated to a worldwide-read blog with a loyal following. Of which I have you, my dear reader, to thank for that.
Shortly after starting my blog, I began my YouTube channel and started to realise how much I loved making video content, too. It was a slow-burner: it took me a while to get over the stage fright you see. Although truth be told, I still find it slightly (okay, very) terrifying vlogging in public. You’ll notice most of my videos are filmed within the safe confines of my makeup room/home office.
With a successful career in TV and SFX makeup artistry behind me, and several prestigious awards to my name, I became, and still am a trusted voice within the beauty industry which has led me to many wonderful opportunities.
As such, I’ve worked with many amazing brands to promote some really fabulous products and services across my social media channels. I’ve even worked for companies like Fanta, owned by Coca-Cola, to provide SFX makeup artistry for a big campaign.
However, after being forced to take quite a large amount of time out of my business due to health reasons, I’ve made the extremely difficult decision to close the RDMUA doors. But the great news is that I’ll still be sharing my favourite products, tutorials and tips here on my blog. I’ll also be posting to my Facebook page, my YouTube channel and of course, my Instagram account too. And yes, I even have a TikTok (but my days of learning dances in Lockdown 1.0 are well and truly over you’ll be thrilled to know).
THE MAGIC OF NEW BEGINNINGS
I’d love you to join me on this new journey, and perhaps even tell me the kind of posts you’d love to see from me in the future. Whether you’re still here for the makeup looks, or whether you’d like to request a product review or even a Q&A video (about almost anything), feel free to send me a message with your suggestions.
I’d like to thank everybody reading this who has supported me over the years. Whether it’s been a kind comment, a page like, a booking, or even just telling a friend about my work. It means the world to me. I’ve made so many wonderful friends and connections throughout my years as a professional makeup artist.
This is not the end for makeup and me, this is merely a new beginning and a fresh way of keeping my passion alive whilst taking care of my health in the best way possible.
I’ll miss making-over my beautiful clients so much, but I’m sure there will be plenty of coffee and cocktail dates to come in the future. After all, most of them have turned into incredible friends for which I am truly thankful.
I’m excited to embrace the magic of new beginnings, and I hope you’ll enjoy this new adventure with me.
Love always,
Rachael xo
