Illamasqua lipsticks have always been a firm favourite of mine since before I even worked for the company. Beautiful, highly pigmented colour with an extremely long wear time is exactly what I look for in a lipstick when I don’t have time for touch ups throughout the day. I’ve always liked using retractable lip crayons or lip pencils, so when I heard Illamasqua would be releasing five new colours to their own version – Lip Slick Stick – I had to hit the ‘add to basket’ button and check out immediately. The colour I bought was ‘True’ which is described as a Lux Nude and that I thought would be perfect to overline my lips slightly and create a fuller effect. True isn’t actually one of the new colours, but I couldn’t resist it when I saw it and just had to buy it! The new additions are; Dream (Luxe Nude Brown), Pride (Luxe Raspberry), Delight (Luxe Hot Pink), Fervor (Luxe Coral) and Amaze (Luxe Deep Berry).
I was so excited when my Slick Stick arrived that the chaos around me in my makeup room had to wait a while so I could try it on and take some pictures to share with you all!
As you can see from the images, the slick stick looks pinky nude on me and matches my nails perfectly! I’m really into nude lips and nude nails lately but the hint of pink hits the spot for me right now.
Illamasqua describe the Slick Stick as: “A colour intense retractable lip crayon that creates long-lasting definition. This creamy water-resistant liner glides over lips effortlessly and once set it does not budge. Use to enhance the lips and to prevent colour bleed or apply across the entire lip to create a colour-intense lip colour.”
The application
I applied the Slick Stick over bare lips and found that the consistency was creamy but not massively so, it’s more of a harder, matte formula, but still, it was easy to apply and to get a lovely, even finish. The colour looks gorgeous and when Illamasqua say this formula won’t budge, they really mean it. I can swipe my hand across my lips and the lipstick will not budge – there’s not even a smidgen of colour on my hand at all.
Tips
- Prep your lips before applying this – start with a lip scrub then apply your favourite lip balm before you do your makeup and allow it to settle in. Gently wipe away your balm once you’re ready for lipstick and apply. This formula won’t work well on dry lips as it’s more of a matte formula designed to stand the test of time throughout the day.
- Don’t roll up the slick stick too high or you’ll risk breaking the stick as you apply it. It is slightly creamy but it still drags a little on certain areas of the lips so be careful you don’t accidentally damage it.
- Use it as either a lip liner or base for another lipstick. I tried my MAC Peach Blossom lipstick over the top later on in the day and it looked equally as gorgeous.
Verdict
I was destined to love the Slick Stick before I’d even tried it, it is from Illamasqua after all! I feel that as long as your lips are prepped properly and they’re not prone to drying out, you’ll love this. The Lip Slick Stick retails at £18.50 and comes in seven different colours, you can check them out here. The stick reminds me massively of Arbonne’s Lip Liner sticks but I have to say, Illamasqua’s does wear longer so for the extra 50p, to me, it’s well worth it.
