Illamasqua Precision Brow Gel Review

On the hype of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade last year, everybody became obsessed with brow gels, and Illamasqua came out with their own offering: Precision Brow Gel. Perfect brows could be seen from Facebook to Instagram right down to the local shops, and brow gels (along with a good beauty therapist) were largely responsible. Offering a precise, clean-cut finish, brow gels allow you to create the perfect look that is also water-resistant – meaning it won’t smudge throughout the day.

I asked my good friend Zoe, Illamasqua’s UK Brand Ambassador, which shade she’d recommend for me what with me having natural ginger hair. She’d spiced up my eyebrows many a time when we worked on the Illamasqua counter together back in 2012, so I trusted her judgement completely! She told me to try out Glimpse because the warm hue would suit my hair colour well. I went ahead and ordered Glimpse for me and Strike for my kit.

Glimpse: A beautiful warm auburn that looks darker in the pot that it actually is.

Strike: A cool dark brown tone that isn’t at all as severe as it sounds.

As soon as these two beauties arrived, I couldn’t wait to try them both on. To apply them, I used my Sigma E65 Small Angle brush and created small brush strokes along my brows. I found that the texture felt quite slippy – bear in mind I’m used to using a pencil so this was quite a change for me. I soon got used to the texture and played around with the shape and finish of my brows. I used Glimpse on the inner two thirds of my brow and Strike on the outer third to add a more defined tail to my brow. I found that both of these colours worked well for my hair colour and skin tone and the finish was just beautiful – perfectly sculpted. The gel/cream sets to a smudge-proof finish that doesn’t feel hard on the brows at all – something I was pleased about as nobody likes an iron brow. I wore the brow gel throughout the day and also had my ballet workout without a single smudge in sight.

I’d highly recommend the Illamsqua Precision Brow Gels to anybody who loves to have that really defined, power brow look. Although, you can of course tone down the look if you’d prefer a more natural finish.
