Baked powder foundations are not products that I’d usually incorporate into my makeup routine. Known for being ultra-light coverage and usually with a mineral base, they not only make my face look like an oil slick within an hour, but they also don’t give me the coverage that I so desire either. So when I received the Laura Geller Baked Balance-N-Brighten Foundation, I was a little skeptical to say the least.
But hear me out on this little wondrous offering: mineral oil and paraben free, packed with age fighting, antioxidant ingredients and downright pretty to look at too.
I couldn’t help myself, and soon found that I was sat with my Sigma brush swirling the baked goodness all over my face. First things first, this powder is by no means a weak coverage. Yes, it’s lighter than what I’m used to with my usual MAC Studio Fix Fluid foundation, but guess what? I actually found it quite buildable too! I tried applying it under my eyes with my finger to build up a fuller coverage and hey presto, it worked a treat!
The Baked Balance-N-Brighten Foundation is actually a colour-correcting baked powder designed with swirls of soft tans and creams to help offset ruddiness in skin, brighten sallow tones and also balance most complexions. The colour I tried out was in ‘Fair’, but I think I’d actually need Porcelain as I found it to look a little grey toned and also red-toned in certain areas of my face, but this foundation had me looking like I’d just spent the week abroad which was fine by me. You can’t actually tell from the lighting in the image, but the shade was a little too dark for me and I had to carefully blend it down into my neck to stop that telltale foundation line.
I was fully expecting the foundation to look oily and wet within a few hours, especially on the sides of my nose, between my eyebrows and my chin, but the makeup Gods were shining down on me and blessed me with a full nine hours perfect coverage without the need for any retouching. No loose powder needed here today. Zero. Nada.
Overall, I was really impressed with this little baked powder and I will continue to wear it when I have a bit of a fake tan going on. I’m really tempted to order the Porcelain shade online and wear it as my ‘natural makeup’ day foundation too. If you want to see the foundation in action, I’m wearing it on my most recent April Lookfantastic Beauty Box unboxing video below.
