NYX Pro Foundation Mixer review

If you’re a fair-skinned lady like me, you’ll know the absolute struggle of trying to find the perfect foundation shade. Too warm, too yellow, too dark…it’s a minefield.

One of my favourite foundations that I’ve talked about a lot in the past is the L’Oreal Infallible 24H Stay Fresh Foundation. I love the texture, the coverage and the finish, but sometimes the shades just don’t look quite right on me. The lightest is a little too pink and draining, and the slightly darker offering is just a little too yellow. I soon found that I was having to buy two different shades of the foundation to mix together to try and achieve a good shade for my skin, but found that the pinky undertone of the lightest shade was just a little too much for me and I was having to use a large amount to try and get my desired colour. Then I discovered the NYX Pro Foundation Mixers!

The Mixers are designed to adjust the tone, shade and finish of any liquid foundations. Of course, they’re marketed to be used with NYX foundations, but they can be used on any liquid foundation to help you alter the shade.

I picked up the colour White because I thought it would be best match for me out of the six shades on offer. I used the mixer with my L’Oreal foundation in the shade Natural Rose and was so pleased with the outcome.

I used one pump of the foundation with an equal amount of mixer and made sure to mix the two products on the back of my hand before I applied them to my face with my beauty blender. The first thing I’ll say is that the Mixer worked so well to instantly lighten my foundation, and I was happy to see that it didn’t alter the texture and finish of my foundation at all. I also found that it was quite buildable in the respect that I could apply a little more of the White Mixer straight onto my face to build up the brightening effect and coverage without disturbing the layer I’d already laid down.

I went ahead and set my foundation with my Ben Nye Neutral Set as always, and finished the rest of my makeup as usual. I was half expecting my foundation to wear away throughout the day or for my skin to become oily or shiny but my foundation stayed put and stayed fresh for the full day!

I’ve since tried the mixer with my Vichy Dermablend Foundation and my Holy Grail MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation and it worked beautifully with both.

I think that this a brilliant little product to pop into your makeup bag for when you need to quickly alter your foundation shade. They also make deep and warm shades which would be great to darken your foundations if you like to fake tan but don’t want to splurge on a completely new foundation to match each stage of your tan.
