I absolutely adore creating gory zombie makeup looks, but sometimes it’s nice to take a break from the surreal and look at something that’s both raw and realistic. I decided that I wanted to try my hand at a new look this October that had more realism, so I chose a realistic burns victim look to re-create.
Using a prosthetic piece, silicones and a mixture of cream and alcohol based paints, I came up with the look below that I applied to my dad over at our studio.
As the look progressed, the mood in our studio switched from light-hearted and happy to quite heavy and sad. Although we knew the look was obviously fake, it still struck a nerve with all of us and made us feel extremely upset for the people that are suffering with injuries like these for real.
To me, makeup artistry is all about pushing limits, exploring new ideas and jumping headfirst into new challenges, and I feel that this look allowed me to do all three.
