August Beauty Favourites

It doesn’t seem two minutes since I was sat writing last months favourites post, but here we are already, another month down and I’m ready to share my August beauty favourites! August was an odd old month which saw me put my plans in motion to make the move back to my home town of Barnsley which I’ll be doing this week. It also got me all excited for the return of October and one of my most favourite nights of the whole year, Halloween! This month I got to try out a few new products over the month, some which I loved and some which have already been demoted to the ‘bottom drawer’ read: the drawer of no return.

So, without further ado, here are my August beauty favourites!

1. The Illamasqua Neutral Palette
As soon as I started working at Illamasqua, this was the palette that I immediately fell in love with and used to wear almost daily. Once I left the counter and the palette behind, I instantly missed the beautiful colour combinations inside! I decided to treat myself to a new palette a couple of months ago and love having it in my makeup bag. The palette has four eyeshadows: Stealth (creamy buttermilk), Vintage (antique gold), Wolf (rich chocolate brown) and the blackest black Obsidian. The shadows can also be used to highlight and contour the face and body so it’s a great investment and as always, the colours are majorly pigmented so a little goes a long way.

2. Carmex Moisture Plus lip balm in Peach
I’ve used Carmex since I was in school after I stumbled across it at a till point in Topshop and threw it in as an impulse buy. Probably one of the best purchases on a whim that I’ve ever made! Carmex seems to be the only balm that keeps my lips lovely and moisturised all year round and I have around four tins on the go at any one time sprinkled around the house so there’s always one in close reach. What I love about the moisture plus sticks is that they add a pop of sheer colour to the lips while delivering the usual comforting protection. This time, I came across the peach tint which I hadn’t seen in my local Boots before. I snapped it up immediately, and although it is a little darker on the lips than the colour indicator shows, it’s still beautifully easy to wear and top up throughout the day. Oh, and it smells so nice too!

3. Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer
After picking this up for my Back to School Beauty under £20 post, I’ve been that impressed with how it looks and lasts that I’ve worn it daily since! With up to 16 hours wear and a seriously good coverage, I find that once this little beauty sets it’s there for the long haul. With hardly any creasing under the eyes and a really good wear time, I can see this becoming a firm favourite in my makeup bag.

4. Natural Collection eyeshadow in White Opal
Another little goodie that I picked up for my Back to School beauty post, I love to use this as a highlighter for all areas of my face. It also looks great layered over eyeshadows to give them a little pop of sheen. A beautiful sparkle which looks lovely on fair skin tones.

Okay, so this is not strictly beauty, but it is a bit of a lifesaver which is always in my makeup bag! If like me, you suffer from bad headaches pretty often, you’ll find this little pot of magic amazing. With dementholised mint oil, Tiger Balm White Ointment is fabulous for relief of tension headaches and muscle aches. I like to apply a small amount to my temples and the back of my neck for a refreshing experience that helps to distract me and soothe my headache. The ointment feels cool and tingly on the skin and really is so soothing to use when you have a bad head, but just be careful to make sure you don’t get it anywhere near your eyes or you’ll be crying a river in no time. I also read that Tiger Balm White Ointment is fabulous for people who suffer with ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as it helps to lift that ‘foggy-headed’ feeling with it’s cool tingling effect.
