January is not always an easy month to handle, with the hype of the festive season behind us, January can have us feeling a little dull and lacking in energy. Sometimes, it’s lovely to be able to pamper yourself, but at the time of the year where the purse strings are usually a little tighter, it’s not always possible to go visit a spa for that lovely pick me up. With that in mind, I thought I’d share my top five beauty pick me ups to try at home to banish the January blues.
1. Take a luxurious bath
Baths are one of my most favourite things in the world. They’re comforting, relaxing and luxurious all in one and can be just what you need for that little pick me up when you’re feeling run down. I’ve been loving using my Molton Brown Fiery Pink Pepperpod Body Wash as both a bubble bath and body wash for a little replenishment along with my Miaroma Lavender oil or my Miaroma Eucalyptus essential oil (which are currently in the penny sale!) Lavender is amazing for relaxation and the eucalyptus is refreshing and invigorating, especially if you’re suffering with a cold!
2. Give your hair a treat
Once a week, I love to spend a little time on my hair and give it a real pamper as it always makes me feel much more put together and looked after. Sometimes, I’ll smooth pure organic coconut oil all over my dry hair a few hours before I wash it as a deep conditioning treatment. I’ve been absolutely besotted by the System Professional Luxeoil Keratin Restore Mask lately which is soo deeply conditioning and nourishing that my hair feels exactly as it does after a salon treatment. The mask is fortified with an expert blend of Jojoba, Argan and Almond Oils and smells like a beautiful marzipan concoction. It’s absolutely divine and my number one favourite. I’ve recently been using the Grow Gorgeous Strengthening Oil on my hair daily too – it has such an unusual smell that reminds me of woodlands and winter. It’s meant to strengthen and protect hair along with restoring shine and makes my hair feel lovely! It’s a lightweight formula so doesn’t weigh hair down or make it look greasy, just nourished and smelling totally gorgeous.
3. Treat your nails to some love
There’s nothing that makes me feel less groomed than uneven, chipped or messy nails! Sometimes it’s hard to keep your nails looking beautifully manicured if you’re constantly using your hands or if you simply don’t have the time, so try to take a little time for yourself and fit in an at-home manicure session. I keep my Lookfantastic nail file on hand in my beauty drawer at my desk just in case I need it throughout the day, and also keep my tube of Molton Brown Fiery Pink Pepperpod hand cream on hand to moisturise my hands throughout the day. My current favourite Nail Polish is from Next and it’s a gorgeous shimmering champagne colour called Ballet Shoe. It doesn’t tend to chip on me as easily as others. I find I get much more wear out of this colour, and if it does chip away at any point, it isn’t noticeable so I’ve time to fix it up before anybody notices!
4. Give your skin a pick me up
Skincare is such an important part of my daily regime, so I really love to look after it as best I can. This means using my Dr Organic Manuka Honey face Mask several times a week and moisturising twice daily with my Doctor Organic Pure Vitamin E Oil Complex. My skin tends to verge on oily, but using this gorgeous pure Vitamin E oil has made such a huge difference to how my skin behaves throughout the day. If your skin isn’t getting the moisture and oils that it needs, it actually overcompensates by producing more oil, so the myth that you can’t use oils on oily skin is really just that, a total myth.
5. Get inspired with a good book
Getting lost in a good book can be a great escape from daily life and a great inspiration too! I’m currently listening to The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying up by Marie Kondo on Audible that’s helping me get motivated to shed my old belongings that are no more of use to me. I’m also enjoying browsing my way through ‘How To Be Parisian: Wherever You Are’, A witty account of all the things the modern Parisiennes are cool for, and how to navigate your life with the mysterious, confidence and va-va-voom that we’ve come to expect from those French females we so admire. Covering men, beauty, culture and everything you can think of in-between, it’s a really good read and definitely food for thought.
So, now your nails are looking gorgeous, your skin and hair is rehydrated and you’ve had a lovely luxurious bath with a new book, you hopefully should be feeling a little more refreshed and ready to hit the rest of January running!
